Biography:

Dr. Avallone is a Clinical Associate Professor at Rutgers University School of Nursing in Camden, NJ. She received her Masters of Science in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA, and her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA.

She is certified as a Critical Care RN (CCRN) and as a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE). Dr Avallone is a the subrecipient for Rutgers School of Nursing-Camden,  collaborating with the NJ Institute for Successful Aging, Rowan University School of Medicine on a $3.75 grant from DHHS/HRSA to build student knowledge and experience as part of an interprofessional team and develop evidence-based competencies to improve health outcomes for older adults in the community and integrate age-friendly curriculum into certified nursing assistant programs and nursing home care. 

She has developed a comprehensive  Student Success program, with components including early detection and intervention, course assistant student support, remediation policies, integration of learning resources, and the hiring and direction of the Nursing Student Success coach. Dr Avallone has developed a summer enrichment program known as the “Bridge to Junior Success” which has demonstrate significant reduction in attrition from Junior fall courses.  She has developed and evaluated programs to use peer teaching students to provide patient-centered transitional heart failure education, and standardized handoff educational curriculum for nursing students.  She has presented her findings at national and international conferences and has published on educational and geriatric education topics.
